Meike Ships $449 58mm f/1.2 Mix Portrait Prime for APS-C Mounts
Meike's $449 AF 58mm f/1.2 Mix primes Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z, undercutting Sigma's discounted 56mm f/1.4 and Viltrox's $522 56mm f/1.2 Pro.

Processing notes
- Meike prices the AF 58mm f/1.2 Mix at $449 for Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z mounts.
- The lens offers a 14-element, 10-group design, an 11-blade aperture and 0.62m minimum focus.
- It weighs about 450g (455g on Nikon Z) and measures 90mm long with a 62mm filter thread.
- Rivals include Sigma's 56mm f/1.4 at $454 after discount and Viltrox's 56mm f/1.2 Pro at $522.
- The lens is available now through Meike; B&H listing is expected soon.
Meike has begun selling the AF 58mm f/1.2 Mix, a $449 portrait prime for APS-C mirrorless cameras in Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z mounts. The lens is available now directly through Meike; it is not yet listed at B&H at the time of writing, though that listing should follow soon.
The price positions Meike just below Sigma's 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, which currently sells for $454 after a $125 holiday discount, and well under Viltrox's AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro at $522 with a 10% holiday discount. That makes the new lens the cheapest f/1.2-class option among its three closest APS-C rivals.
What are the specifications?
The optical formula comprises 14 elements in 10 groups, with an 11-bladed aperture diaphragm. Meike promises "soft, smooth bokeh" and "fine detail" from the design. Image quality remains unverified until independent testing lands, though the Mix series has performed well in earlier hands-on reviews.
The focal length works out to an angle of view equivalent to roughly 85mm on full frame, given the approximately 1.5x crop factor of APS-C sensors (the effective conversion that makes an APS-C lens behave like a longer full-frame lens). That is a classic portrait length, and one Meike already serves on full frame with its 85mm f/1.4 Mix II AF STM.
Meike has not specified the autofocus motor type, but it promises fast autofocus that cooperates with in-camera eye-detect and face-detect AF modes. Minimum focus distance is 0.62 meters, just over two feet.
How big and heavy is it?
The lens measures 90 millimeters (3.5 inches) long and takes 62mm filters. It weighs about 450 grams (15.9 ounces) in E and X mount; the Nikon Z version runs slightly heavier at 455 grams, likely because of the wider Z mount diameter. All three versions remain compact and lightweight for the class.
The Mix series favors straightforward, unassuming industrial design. This one keeps the standard black finish but also ships in silver, white, and white-and-black colorways.
How does the competition stack up?
The APS-C portrait segment is crowded, and each rival trades price against speed or size:
- Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary — $454 after a $125 discount; available for Sony, Fujifilm and Nikon plus Canon RF and L-Mount; much lighter at 280 grams and shorter at 59.5 millimeters (2.3 inches).
- Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro — $522 with a 10% discount on E, X and Z mounts; matches Meike's f/1.2 speed but weighs over 100 grams more and runs slightly longer.
- Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 — $180 on the same three mounts; slower, but compact and lightweight at less than half the Meike price.
What does this mean for working photographers?
For APS-C shooters building a portrait kit, the Meike entry splits the difference in the market: f/1.2 speed at a price below the discounted Sigma and a substantial saving against the Viltrox f/1.2. The cost of that speed is weight and length — the Sigma undercuts it by roughly 170 grams while giving up a third of a stop.
Buyers weighing the decision now should also watch the holiday discount window, since the Sigma and Viltrox prices cited here are promotional. Whether Meike's image quality and autofocus hold up against established rivals will become clear once retail units reach reviewers and B&H lists the lens.
