Singapore's Consumer Association of Singapore (Case) has received 66 complaints against Artiz Studio Singapore between Aug 14 and Aug 18, covering more than S$271,000 in prepayment losses, after the Korean wedding photography chain abruptly ceased operations at its Bras Basah outlet. Case president Melvin Yong confirmed the figures in response to media queries on Wednesday.

A notice posted at the studio's Singapore outlet — shared on Reddit on Tuesday (Aug 18) — attributes the closure to internal company breakdown rather than a scheduled wind-down. "Due to internal operational issues within the company, all employees have currently not received their outstanding salaries. At the same time, we have been unable to obtain any clear or formal response, update, or further arrangements from the company's management," the notice reads.

The studio said it could not confirm or guarantee that scheduled photography sessions, photo selection appointments or other booked services would proceed, and advised customers not to show up for appointments. It apologised for the "inconvenience, difficulties, and uncertainty" and said it would not offer "unverified information, answers or commitments" until management responded.

For working photographers and studio operators, the mechanics of the failure matter as much as the headline. Artiz ran a prepaid, package-based business model: customers paid substantial sums up front for shoots, selections, albums and retouching, with delivery spread over months. When cash flow broke, deliverables vanished with it — including images already captured.

Where are the client photos?

A second notice, reportedly from the studio's photo and album production partner, appeared at the same premises and was shared by another Reddit user. "We currently have more than 50 sets of your photographs in our possession. If you would like to collect or arrange for the return of your photographs, please feel free to contact me," it reads.

That detail exposes a structural risk in outsourced post-production workflows: raw files and finished images sat with a third-party vendor, not the studio that sold the packages. Affected customers on Reddit reported mixed situations — one couple had completed a shoot but not yet selected images and was hunting for soft copies; another had paid but never been photographed and was hoping for a refund.

What do the corporate records show?

Google lists the Singapore outlet as temporarily closed. However, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority's Bizfile portal shows Korea Artiz Studio Pte. Ltd., at the same address, still holds a "Live Company" status — meaning no formal insolvency filing has been made yet.

Yong said complainants had contacted the business seeking fulfilment of contracted services or refunds, but the company was not responsive. Case has reached out to the company to determine whether scheduled sessions will proceed and what remedies will be offered if they cannot.

"Consumers are advised to carefully review bridal and wedding photography packages before committing to a purchase," Yong said, recommending written confirmation of key terms and deliverables, retention of contracts and proof of payment, and where appropriate, negotiated progressive payments tied to stages of service delivery rather than large upfront sums.

Affected customers can contact Case via its website or hotline at 6277 5100.

Is this a regional collapse?

Signs point to a chain-wide failure, not a local one. Local media reports say Artiz Studio's Taiwan operation went bankrupt and shuttered on Aug 10. Commenters identifying as customers of Artiz Studio Jakarta have flooded the brand's Instagram page demanding compensation, with one writing: "Please give the money back, I'm so sad, I've already paid."

Korea Artiz Studio was founded in Busan in 2008 as a luxury Korean-style wedding photo studio and entered Singapore in 2017, building visibility through collaborations with local TV personalities and content creators including Maxi Lim, Nicole Chang Min and James Seah.

Competitors are already moving on the stranded demand. Local wedding studio Hey Stranger Photography posted on Instagram on Tuesday offering affected couples a special discount on its pre-wedding shoot packages: "If you're one of the affected couples and is now looking for an alternative, please feel free to reach out to us."

AsiaOne has contacted Artiz Studio Singapore for comment. With the corporate entity still listed as live but management silent and staff unpaid, the immediate question for the more than 50 sets of held photographs — and the S$271,000 in prepayments — is whether any formal recovery process begins before couples move on.
