Ricoh to Open First US GR Space in New York in Winter 2027
Ricoh will open its first US GR Space in New York City in Winter 2027, its seventh worldwide and second outside Asia, following a burst of GR IV-series releases and the line's 30th anniversary.

Processing notes
- Ricoh's first US GR Space opens in New York City in Winter 2027.
- It is the seventh GR Space worldwide and the second outside Asia, after Brisbane.
- Since Brisbane opened, Ricoh launched the GR IV, GR IV HDF, GR IV Monochrome and announced the GR IVx.
- Ricoh marked the GR series' 30th anniversary with a special GR IV edition kit.
- No address, exhibition, or event schedule has been disclosed yet.
Ricoh Imaging will open its first dedicated GR Space in the United States, in New York City, in Winter 2027 — a date that, as DPReview notes, the company does not intend to mean December 2027, so the doors could open as early as January of that year.
The announcement makes New York the seventh GR Space worldwide and only the second outside Asia. Existing locations include Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Brisbane — the sole non-Asian site until now — and, most recently, Seoul. Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation frames the move as a milestone for the company's growth in North America.
What does the space change for working photographers?
For now, the concrete details are thin. Ricoh has not disclosed the exact address within New York City, the opening date beyond the Winter 2027 window, the inaugural gallery exhibition, seminar schedule, or special events. The company says it will share more details soon.
What Ricoh has committed to is a purpose: a venue where, in President of Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation Ken Curry's words, "snapshooters to professional photographers can experience our products, but more importantly, where they can learn, exchange ideas and be inspired by one another."
Curry ties the location choice to the series' street-photography identity. "New York City and the GR share a natural connection," he said. "Both are driven by observation, spontaneity and finding extraordinary moments in everyday life."
For professionals, that translates to a physical showroom and community hub in the largest US photo market — comparable in function to what Brisbane offers Australian GR users. It is a retail-and-brand play, not a new product launch, and Ricoh's claims about "commitment to the photography industry" are marketing language until the programming is announced.
A busy product cycle behind the announcement
The US expansion lands amid the most active GR release period in years. Since the Brisbane GR Space opened, Ricoh has:
- officially launched the GR IV
- launched the GR IV HDF, with its built-in highlight diffusion filter
- launched the GR IV Monochrome, the monochrome-specific body
- announced development of the GR IVx
- marked the GR series' 30th anniversary with a special edition GR IV kit, which includes collectible camera pins
The Brisbane parallel is instructive. That space opened in September 2025 alongside the global launch of the GR IV. "The GR series has always been more than just a camera — it's a movement, a culture, and a way of seeing the world," Clem Kennedy, Director of GR Space Brisbane, told PetaPixel at the time. "With GR Space Brisbane, we are creating a place to promote Australian homegrown talent."
Whether the New York opening will be timed to a specific GR IVx launch or other product event remains unconfirmed. Ricoh has only said more details are coming.
A long runway to opening day
Winter 2027 puts the opening roughly two years out from this announcement, an unusually long lead time for a branded retail and event space. That gap leaves open questions about programming, whether the venue will host paid workshops or exhibitions open to submissions, and how — or whether — Ricoh will use it to support working photographers rather than hobbyists.
Until Ricoh names an address and a calendar, the US GR Space is an announced intent, not a shipped product. The confirmed facts: one city, one opening season, and a company betting that a physical foothold in New York will deepen a GR community that three decades of cameras — and five recent model releases — have already built.
